Living with Authenticity
We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but we will show up for you.
We will only trust those we believe to be real and care about who we are and who we can become. It means that the things we say and do align with our beliefs. Those should always be in alignment, regardless of the setting.
Whether at work or home, in the classroom or at the mall, we should be the same person. We don’t pretend to have all of the answers or try to be all things to all people. But we will show up and be present with you today.
Doing the Next Right Thing
The next right thing will bring someone closer to their best life.
When faced with a decision, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t always the right thing. A lot of times, it is the easy thing, the convenient thing, or the conflict-avoidant thing. For it to truly be the next right thing, it means we are looking down the road to the long-term implications of that choice.
The next right thing should be getting someone closer to their best life. Sometimes that means leaning into pain and helping someone find meaning and purpose from that discomfort. Sometimes that leads to saying and doing things that aren’t popular or easy, but it is the right thing. That is what caring for people looks and feels like, whether staff or clients.
Moving Forward
We ask people to take a hard look at their life, their choices, and their habits. We hold ourselves to the same standard.
Most of us know our weaknesses, hurts, and things that get in the way of our happiness—at work and in life. It is what a person does with that knowledge that counts. If we keep doing the same self-defeating things, then we are stuck. We are stuck if our actions don’t align with our words.
Every day, we ask people to take a hard look at their life, their choices, and how they are letting unhealthy habits keep them from living their best. We hold ourselves to the same standard. We can’t ask the people we serve to do something we aren’t willing to do ourselves.
Professionally, we can’t rely on the same techniques and our own experience. There are continuous improvements in the field that are more effective. Personally, we all must be willing to keep growing, trying to get better, and working our program toward wellness.
