One of the biggest challenges to addressing problems with alcohol and drugs is the stigma, prejudice and misunderstanding involved with these issues. In order to change these perceptions, it is important that the community has an opportunity to hear from those who faced the struggle, and are finding ways, a day at a time, to live in freedom. Ten Sixteen Recovery Network is bringing together individuals with recovering experience to promote better policies and attitudes that will make recovery a reality for more people in our community. It is our desire to help people find lasting recovery. By building communities that embrace wellness and recovery, we can help more of our friends and family members. We understand the risks of coming forward, and respect the traditions that need protect a person’s anonymity. Here is a tool that can guide you through some of those considerations. http://www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org/pdf/Advocacy_Toolkit/RBOR_legal.pdf http://www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org/pdf/2010-%20advocacywithanonymity-brochure.pdf As you are comfortable, we encourage you to lend us your voice and share your experience, strength and hope in this way. |
